Forearm tattoos are an entirely bad idea.
I’m not really a fan of tattoos in general. The ones that symbolize something, like a lost loved one, those ones are okay. The tattoo is a reminder of the person loved, making sure the person with the tattoo is reminded of them. That I get. What I don’t really get are the people who get some sort of design. Or even worse are the girls who get the generic butterfly/flower/whatever on the small of their back.
While I don’t care for tattoos, I really don’t care for forearm tattoos. At some point the person getting the tattoo is going to want to get a job where someone is going to be taking them seriously. I don’t know about you, but I can’t do it. All I think about is how stupid this person must be to think forearm tattoos are a good idea. I’m too busy mocking them in my head to take them seriously. I’d mock them to their face, but they could probably beat me up.
Random Thing I Enjoyed This Week
A buddy and I went up to Camrose to watch some junior hockey (The RBC Cup to be precise) and it was a pretty fun time.
First of all, the ladies in Camrose were pretty lovely. I’d like to find the guy who invented lululemon pants, so I can congratulate him from dudes everywhere. Anything that makes ladies’ behinds look that good is a good thing.
The rink is basically brand new, and it’s pretty nice. Combine that with good hockey and a nice town and you have two guys who had a good time getting away for a couple of days.
Random Thing That Irritated Me This Week
Camrose was great except one thing. There is absolutely nothing to do in that town.
Before the games started on Thursday, we had a few hours to kill. We asked the guy at the hotel what we should do. His response? “Uh, I dunno. You could go to the casino. There’s also strippers in (some rundown hotel).” So we went to the casino.
So I cracked out $20, and set out to find the cheapest slot machine I could. I found a machine that accepted penny bets, with the minimum bet being a dime. I thought this was pretty good, so I went to sit down. Right before I did, I noticed a little card where some lady had reserved the machine. This was the only penny machine left. The old lady then appeared, giving me the evil glare because I was near her machine.
The lesson here? Never get between the crazy old casino woman and her machine. I did end up winning $5, so that wasn’t so bad.
Song I Like And Therefore You Should Too
Am I the only one who thinks Weezer hasn’t come out with a good album since about 2006? Which is really too bad, since their first album is about as good as music gets. I bet I’ve listened to that album 200 times from cover to cover. There isn’t a weak song on it.
Simpsons Quote of The Week
Bart: Are there any jive-talking robots in this play?
Marge: Um, I don’t think so.
Homer: Bart, don’t ask stupid questions… Is there any frontal nudity?
Blogging Snack of The Week
I am a fan of pizza, and Pizza Hut might be my favorite of the pizza chains.
They have a lunch buffet for $7.95, which might be the best deal in the world for a recovering fat guy who likes pizza. Plus, we got a 20% discount when we showed them a ticket stub from the RBC cup. Since there were only 2 other tables besides us, the guy took requests of what types of pizza to put in the buffet. My waistline suffered, but I regret nothing. Oh, and breadsticks? Delightful. I could just eat their breadsticks for a meal.
Sports TV You Should Watch This Week
Well, TSN is probably going to show the final of the RBC cup on Sunday. There’s a good start.
I watched a documentary on the U.S. educational system called Waiting For Superman, and I definitely recommend it. It’s about some smart people who are trying to improve the system, specifically trying to improve inner city schools, and the struggles they’ve encountered along the way. In fact, one of the biggest obstacles are the teachers themselves. If you’re at all interested in education, I’d recommend it.
Blogging Babe Of The Week
Don’t worry Money Rabbit, it isn’t you.

I’ve been watching a lot of the Vancouver/Nashville series, and easily the best part of those games have been the many shots of Carrie Underwood. Mike Fisher, you did well my friend.

Fabulously Broke talked about all the gifts we’re expected to give and the guilt people feel when they feel their gift isn’t up to a particular cost. Great post.
Boomer wrote about 5 common mistakes investors make. I’d add #6, which is investing in strippers. This isn’t a good idea.

The one I like about as much as the forearm tattoo is the neck tattoo. Now there’s a good idea for future career prospects.
Can’t say that I’ve ever been to Camrose but the strippers, casino and hockey rink likely sums up what that town is all about.
Thanks for the mention Uproar!

Haha… back tattoo. i’m with you on this one, I don’t know why people like getting tattoos. When people get old, the tattoos will just blur and smudge. Did you ever see that old SNL skit on Lower Back Tattoos?
Don’t worry, you’ll get laid soon! I didn’t know the inventor o Lululemon pants was from Camrose! Genius! I’d like to thank him too for making my butt look good.
Thanks for the linky link!

This is going to be a long comment, but as soon as I read your opening sentence, I knew I had to leave something.
After just getting a tattoo on Sunday, you can expect I’m probably going to be a bit defensive on the whole you don’t like tattoos thing. But I get it! Lots of people don’t like them. And I agree that it’s going to be hard for them to get serious jobs. At least today that’s still happening. It’s a bit sad that it comes to that though. Just because you have tattoos doesn’t mean you’re not a hard worker or you’re not smart at all. Starbucks makes you cover it up if you have it on your arms. Even if it’s 30 degrees out, too bad you’re wearing a long sleeve shirt. Personally I don’t think tattoos look bad, unless it’s Super Mario on your chest or something really out there and stupid. The one I just got is a tribute to my family, it’s something I thought up and drew myself, but since I can’t tattoo my own back, I needed someone to do it for me, and the girl that did it I’ve known personally since 9th grade and took art class with her. I posted it on Twitter, and will actually do a little blog post on it, should check it out. ;PI eventually think that piercings and tattoos will become so common that employers won’t harp on that anymore. Most of the people I know that have tattoos and piercings are really smart and hardworking people. Eventually employers will realize that they are turning down some of the best potential employees because of something silly like a facial piercing or a tattoo. I know it’s all about the “appearance of the company” but by the time the true “old-fashioned people” pass away in 20 years, the people left will all be tattooed and pierced. I know and see 40 and 50 year olds all the time that have tattoos on their forearms! So I’m sure they won’t judge on an employee who has the same. I actually went to Boston Pizza one night with a friend and as we left the guy who rang us through had stretched ears, and since he had buzzed hair, they were very visible. But he was dressed so nicely, I knew he was the manager of the restaurant, and after asking him how big his ears are (cause that’s what we do), I then asked him if he was the manager. He said yes, I asked him if he liked it, he said he really does. And then he ended up telling me that he was really glad they didn’t judge him based off of one little thing about his appearance and that he was able to get the manager position. But like I said, even though he had those, he was wearing such a nice outfit and being so friendly that you just knew he was the manager. And I think that’s cool.
And when people always ask “How do you think that tattoo will look when you’re 80?!” I want to slap them, because we’re not getting tattooed for when we’re 80, we’re getting tattooed for us, for the moment right now. And when I’m 80, I know I will look back on my life and be happy about everything, from every job opportunity and promotion, to every piercing and tattoo, to my marriage, and every child birth, to seeing my grandchildren grow, etc. Plus, seeing as how my tattoo is family, I look forward to the day my grandchildren ask me who the people on my back are and I tell them that “Albert and Emma are your great-great-great-grandparents” and then can tell them stories about my childhood with my grandparents who obviously won’t be alive when they are around.
I know that I see tattoo’s a lot differently then you do, but I wanted you to hear a different perspective. And I know that you don’t understand the whole “design tattoo” but honestly, a lot of people like art and getting a cool design on their body is like colouring their hair. Except it’s permanent. Not everyone gets tattoos that “mean something” although most people do. I will never get a tattoo just for the heck of it. I can see myself getting more but they will for sure mean something, and I can tell a story behind it.
Okay, the end, sorry for making your blog post a million times longer.
PS. Carrie Underwood is so hot. If I could change myself to look like someone, it would be her.

That was massive. Damn, you’re really passionate about tattoos.
I think tattoos are silly, but I don’t hold anything against someone who decides to get one, or many. It’s their body, and they can do whatever they want with it. Like I said, I understand getting a tat that symbolizes something. For a brief while, I actually thought about getting a tattoo of a dollar sign, because of what it represents to me. Maybe I should write a post about that some day.
So I don’t really hate tattoos. They’re just not for me, that’s all.
What I do hate about tattoos are two things. First of all, let’s talk about the generic tattoo, like the barbed wire on the bicep or the flower on the lower back. What’s that supposed to symbolize? What’s the thought process behind getting a tat like that? That’s getting a tattoo because everyone else is getting a tattoo, and the person isn’t enough of an individual to get something that’s either cool or thought provoking. To make a Star Trek reference (wow, I’m sooooo cool) it’s like they’re another Borg waiting to be assimilated.
Then there’s forearm tattoos. When someone gets a forearm tattoo, they’re indirectly giving the finger to the establishment. After all, respectable people don’t get tats that are visible at all time. Respectable people get tattoos that can be covered easily. All decisions have consequences, and one consequence of a forearm tattoo is that people aren’t going to take someone as seriously. Yet people do this, knowing full well the consequences. I think this is a pretty foolish decision by the person getting the ink.
So I guess I don’t hate forearm tattoos. I just hate people who think getting them is a good idea. As for the BPs guy, he became manager despite what he looked like. There’s no doubt in my mind that life would be a whole lot easier for people like him if they just looked normal.
Anyway, kudos for such a great comment. Since apparently we’re going to meet sometime, I fully expect to wake up the next morning with a massive tattoo on my back, like that guy in that Labatt commercial from like 1994.

To clarify, I’m pretty sure the inventor of Lulus isn’t from Camrose. I just appreciated how good his pants make asses look.

I can understand what you’re saying about forearm tattoos, but I also know that people want to get tattoos so that they’re NOT hidden at all times, and that’s why so many people get forearm tattoos. Take my best friend, who got a rose done on her forearm for her grandmother who passed away a few years ago (roses were her favourite flower). http://www.flickr.com/photos/worthknowing/5544237484/in/set-72157623520564198
I don’t think it’s badly placed and I don’t think that that will prevent her from getting a job. In fact, it hasn’t, since she works at two jobs currently, and got both jobs after getting this tattoo.
Granted, I know that overall they are still a bad idea. I wanted one for the longest time and am now reconsidering because I already work in the financial services industry and I don’t want to jeopardize my job. Or I COULD get a forearm tattoo and if they bitch about it, I could be like “So you’re gonna throw me out and lose all the awesome service I provide, and have my regular customers bitch because I’m gone just because of a simple little tattoo?”
But at the same time I wouldn’t get something stupid on my forearms either. I’m not that retarded.
But now I’m reconsidering and will probably stick to my back/ribs/thighs for all tattoos. That way they’ll be covered at all times when I’m working, but visible when I’m at the beach, or naked with boys.
I’m honestly not trying to argue with you, you make good points. I just don’t think you should HATE people that like getting tattoos of any kind, forearm or not. It’s their body, and if it makes them not able to get jobs, then that’s more for you right? Plus, like I said in my first comment, the majority of people that get tattoos are still nice, reliable, hardworking, and smart people. And I couldn’t even tell you how many people I know that have them. My mom even has 3 tattoos.
You will NOT wake up with a massive tattoo on your back. That will be me every day now for the rest of my life.
